Internet technology is leading investment in the industry, say Wall Street analysts

Are we going on vacation? Mark Mahaney, executive director and head of web research at Evercore ISI, asked attendees for a quick hands -on demonstration at Digital Commerce 360’s EnvisionB2B event in Chicago last week. The majority answered in the affirmative.

It’s hard to see how businesses differentiate themselves from the competition.

Despite the onset of the recession, Mahaney told attendees that he did not expect to compete with the 2000s’ dot-com bubble collapse or the 2007 and 2009 housing crisis.

Financial analysts Mark Mahaney, left, and Michael Brown, right, are featured with Digital Commerce 360 vice president Mark Brohan at EnvisionB2B.

But what is the impact of the economy?

“It’s a dirty word to give back to the economy,” said Michael Brown, founder and CEO at Bowery Capital, who joined Mahaney in a major conference call on online investing techniques. Brown told the public that the beginning of 2022 saw a slowdown in investment in online markets. But as interest rates rise, there are still opportunities to look.

“It’s the job of business investors to find interesting assets,” Brown said. “The innovation continues, and so I think it’s a great time to start a business.”

Existing studies could prove difficult, Brown said. Raising money is a difficult time. “A lot of these companies make more money on investments that are bigger than they can handle,” Brown said. “And most of the humility is going to be your thing [company’s] the last number is on. “

Hot spots

“There’s no deal coming to public markets right now,” Mahaney told attendees. “I think they’re just going to leave until the end of this year.”

Despite the economic downturn, some areas are favorable to investors. Transportation and logistics are good places for business finances, Brown said.

“These are tough businesses with tough shipping numbers and margin profiles, but there are businesses like Convoy and Long Haul Trucking that are doing well – there are dozens of these companies that have raised hundreds of millions of dollars, “he said, referring to the network- car insurance services.

It’s also a good bargain to sell, Brown said. Most importantly, the advertising platform of the sale.

Brown also saw the Xometry labor market, which in 2021 sold ThomasNet, a product sourcing, customer selection and digital marketing solutions, while another industry was benefiting from the digitization of the manufacturing industry. (Randy Altschuler, CEO of Xometry, discussed the growth of his business at a key EnvisionB2B “talk fire” on Friday.)

The segments on the other side of the spectrum are related to human resource careers – such as companies that train employees in industries such as HVAC.

“These jobs are very difficult because of localization issues – you have to have a lot of land to be able to quickly build a business. And usually a low -income worker, that’s the difference and with the retail price there, ”Brown said. “And these kinds of businesses break down. It’s not a good market for business investments.

It’s a climb for businesses to stand out, Mahaney said. He knew that the logistics industries would compete at the fixed level in the same way.

“It’s hard to see how companies differentiate themselves from the competition,” he said. “So instead of giving 18 teams 25 minutes as opposed to being able to only give 14 teams – it’s going down to that kind of level of accuracy.”

Look long

The recession is a perfect time for companies to plan their long -term vision, Mahaney said. “By building a better cost strategy in these experimental conditions, I think businesses will have better investment opportunities,” he said.

“Most of our criticism is in the nuances – what we offer may be opportunities to make the right mindset, but they may not be the right ones,” Bowery said. Capital’s Brown.

Eighty percent of Brown’s investments with employees have solved a problem while working in a business or major and they want to start a business without being bothered by driving or digitalization problems, he said.

Investors spend by buying the highest quality stocks abroad, Mahaney said. “We’re using the valuation problem by buying the highest quality assets when they sell,” he said.

It is important to use an economy to plan ahead for growth. “Teams are looking out [plan for the next] Two or three years to win the ecommerce machine market. “
